Jill Q. Porter is the founder of Porter Associates Educational Consultants and has over thirty years of experience in the field of education. Jill is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the placement process. It is her belief that the choice of educational opportunities is one of the most important life-changing decisions you can make and should truly be in the best interest of the child.
Jill is recognized for her expertise as she specializes in college/undergraduate admissions, secondary/boarding school admissions, graduate admissions, schools for the learning disabled, and rehabilitation programs. She has served as Assistant Dean of Students for the University of California, Berkley and has also been a College Administrator/Counselor for Indiana University, Long Beach State University, and San Diego State University. Jill also has experience as a Junior High and High School Teacher/Counselor.
Jill received a Bachelor of Arts and Master's degree from Indiana University. She is married and a mother of two. Her membership affiliations include the Independent Educational Consultants Association, National Association for College Admission Counseling, Western Association for College Admission Counseling, National Association of School and Programs and Small Boarding School Association. She also holds the designation of Certified Educational Planner (CEP).
Barbara McDowell, M.A. Associate
Barbara McDowell began working with Porter Associates Educational Consultants in 1998. She began her education career as a teacher for elementary, high school and special education students. Her focus became Career Counseling and College Planning. She was the Director of Counseling and a guidance, college and career counselor at Santa Fe Christian Schools, Solana Beach, California, for seven years and has been in private practice for ten years.
Barbara received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Redlands and a Master's degree from Point Loma Nazarene University. She is credentialed by the State of California in Pupil Personnel Services. She also has additional certification in Career and Education Counseling from the University of California, San Diego and the SOI Institute.
Barbara's professional affiliations include: the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, the Western Association for College Admissions Counseling, the California Association of Counseling and Development, the California Career Education Association, the Higher Education Consultants Association, the Independent Educational Consultants Association and the Chi Sigma Iota Professional Counseling Honor Society.
